CLAXTON, Tenn. — The Claxton Volunteer Fire Department said Wednesday crews were called out to contain a 2.5-acre brush fire that broke out at the end of Toby Hollow Lane.
The fire department said the callers who initially reported the fire told them it was started by some juveniles. The fire department also had to ask for aid from Karns, Rocky Top, Marlow and Medford. They also asked for help from the Anderson County Emergency Management Agency.
"Fire units did a great job keeping it under control until the Division of Forestry was able to use dozers to make a fire break around the area," the fire department said on social media.
CSX said an arson investigator went to assess the area and start an investigation.
"They have had a lot of issues in that area. Problems like laying stuff on the train tracks. Limbs, rocks, etc. All cross ties were brand new and were for repairs on the tracks," the fire department said on social media.
It said video footage from a nearby water treatment plant would be reviewed as part of the investigation.
