Young elk calf poached on wildlife management area, TWRA searching for those responsible

A hunter discovered the elk calf on Friday, Dec. 22. After wildlife officers responded, they believe the elk was shot by a small caliber rifle.

CLAIBORNE COUNTY, Tenn. — The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency is asking for help in finding the person, or persons, responsible for poaching a young elk calf in a wildlife management area.

TWRA said the incident happened in the Valley Creek area of the Ed Carter Unit of North Cumberland Wildlife Management Area. 

A hunter discovered the elk on Friday, Dec. 22 and contacted TWRA. After wildlife officers responded to the area, they said that the elk appeared to have been shot by a small caliber rifle.

Wildlife agencies are offering a $3,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible.
