CLAIBORNE COUNTY, Tenn. — The head coach at Claiborne High School resigned from his position Monday, as questions continued to linger regarding a "possible incident" involving some high school students.
Nathan Medlin resigned from his position as head coach on Monday, effective immediately, according to Andrew McGinnis, the athletic director for the school. He said Corey McGinnis was named the interim head coach for the season, and football practice resumed on Wednesday. According to the TSSAA, McGinnis previously coached boys' basketball.
The school previously said it contacted law enforcement regarding the incident, and could not provide specific information about it. The New Tazewell Police Department said it was conducting an investigation.
Additional information about the "possible incident" was not immediately available.
On Aug. 7, the school board members were scheduled to attend a closed executive session. According to a public notice, it was closed due to attorney-client privilege. Another regular board meeting was also set for Aug. 8, but discussion on the "possible incident" was not on the agenda.
