City takes public comment about Fort Dickerson plans

(KNOXVILLE) Knoxville officials are getting ready to move forward with improvements to Fort Dickerson Park..

Mayor Madeline Rogero joined other city officials Wednesday afternoon to hear from the public about the historic South Knoxville park.

Last year the city completed a $1.4 million roadway realignment project as part of improvement plans for the park, which overlooks Fort Loudoun Lake.

The work included a traffic signal for the Chapman Highway entrance and a new two-lane road complete with sidewalk access.

Now officials want to improve access to the quarry lake and the overlook.

“It's just a beautiful piece of property, a beautiful asset, so we want to make it easier to get into and more attractive so that people will come and enjoy this wonderful asset right in the heart of Knoxville,” Rogero said.

Fort Dickerson Park includes 85 acres of green space and hiking and mountain biking trails, the quarry lake and a historic Civil War fort.
