Long-serving City of Sevierville Mayor Bryan Atchley is asking for thoughts and prayers.
He was admitted to the University of Tennessee Medical Center on Monday.
"Mayor Atchley has been battling cancer and was scheduled to receive a chemo treatment yesterday, however his white blood cell count was found to be extremely low and he was admitted to the hospital," a release from the City of Sevierville said.
It said doctors are working to improve his condition in hopes of soon continuing treatment.
"We ask that everyone keep Mayor Atchley and his family in your thoughts and prayers," said Bob Stahlke, City of Sevierville Professional Services and Public Information Officer.
