Ceremony marks three year anniversary of Loudon County Deputy's murder

On the anniversary of a Loudon County Deputy's murder, those who tried to pull him to safety three years ago are honored.Deputy Jason Scott was responding to a domestic violence call when he was shot by a teenager.A two day stand off followed."It's like we live it again every year," says Joni Scott, Widow.On March 12, 2004, dozens swarmed Loudon County to rescue an officer who was down.Deputy Scott had been shot and needed their help.Sheriff Tim Guider of Loudon County says, "It's very vivid in my mind today. These guys will always be remembered and have a special place in my heart." Three years later, those same area officers who put their lives on the line to pull Deputy Scott to safety were recognized for their work. A special ceremony held by the Knox County Sheriff's Office was about help and healing."If you look across the room at everybody involved, they were all choking back tears because the memory is so vivid," says Todd Sleet of the Knox County Sheriff's Office.Sleet and several others received the medal of valor for going in and grabbing Deputy Scott.Others who took a direct hit got the purple heart.Officer Patrick Lawson still wears shrapnel in his neck and forehead."I want people to know it's nice to be recognized but it's not why myself and the other officers did what we did. It's because it's our duty. We take that strongly, " adds Lawson.Their teamwork could not save Deputy Scott but out of tragedy came some light.Jayden was born 11 days after her father's death.Her presence on Monday was powerful.Scott adds, "We want to tell them we appreciate them. They have families and kids also. We are very grateful they done that for us. We are so appreciative of them."The Loudon County Sheriff's Department also held a small remembrance earlier in the day for Deputy Scott.
