CARYVILLE, Tenn. — Campbell County officially has a new inclusive playground, after a grand opening ceremony on Friday to mark the completed "Caryville Cares" playground project.
The group behind it worked to make sure children of all abilities would be able to enjoy time at the playground. It features equipment and safety measures that help make sure all children can play and have fun.
The area is fenced-in and features equipment like a large tube slide, safety matting and a music area with instruments similar to xylophones. There is also a shaded seating area and shaded equipment for children to play on.
"I showed up to one of their first fundraiser dinners, and it actually was not accessible for my wheelchair. I couldn't get to the table with my family. I thought, 'I want to be a part of this. I think they need some disabled people in this group to give some insight,'" said Ally Winter, who helped organize the playground.
The group raised money through community fundraisers to build the playground, and it is the first-ever inclusive playground in the county.
