CARTER COUNTY, Tenn. — A federal recovery center located in Elizabethton temporarily closed overnight Wednesday into Thursday, due to the threat of showers and high winds.
The Federal Emergency Management Agency said in a release that the center located at 1749 Highway 19 East in Elizabethton closed at 4 p.m. on Wednesday. It will reopen at around 1 p.m. on Thursday, weather permitting.
Its regular hours are 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Mondays through Saturdays. It serves people recovering after Hurricane Helene brought historic flooding to parts of East Tennessee, wiping away communities and buildings.
Across East Tennessee, showers are expected to start early Thursday, between 5 a.m. and 9 a.m., before tapering off into the afternoon hours. It is mostly expected to affect morning commutes.
