Rural Fire Service: 2 wildfires contained in Campbell County

The wildfires were reported Tuesday evening. One was near White Rock Road and the other was near Bankston Lane.

CAMPBELL COUNTY, Tenn. — Crews responded to reports of a wildfire in Campbell County Tuesday evening, near White Rock Road at around 8:30 p.m. Later that night, at around 10:30 p.m., dispatchers said a second wildfire was reported near the first on Bankston Lane in the Big Creek area.

According to the LaFollette Fire Department Chief, some structures were threatened by the White Rock Road fire. The Tennessee Division of Forestry said at least 17 personnel were responding to the fire at around 9:10 p.m.

The Campbell County Rural Fire Service said both the White Rock Road and Bankston Lane fires were contained by 11:30 p.m. Crews from the Divison of Forestry were putting a safety line in place for the White Rock Road fire, and CCRFS said multiple homes were endangered before crews contained it.

Two outbuildings did burn in the White Rock Road fire, CCRFS said.

The chief also said crews from Jackson and Caryville helped contain the White Rock Road fire, along with crews from LaFollette. He said high winds made it hard to extinguish the flames, and he said no injuries were reported as of around 11 p.m.

CCRFS said several fire departments also responded to the Bankston Lane fire Tuesday night, including the Campbell County Rural Fire Service and the Caryville Fire Department. Crews contained the fire by 11:30 p.m. and they were staying on the scene to make sure it didn't spread, according to a release.

Information about the size of fires or their causes was not immediately available.
