(CINCINNATI.com) - A pedestrian hit by a car Monday at Springdale Road and Niagara Street in Colerain Township is the older brother of 2-year-old Brody Allen, who died of a rare brain cancer last month.
Andrew "Drew" Allen, 18, was crossing Springdale Road when he was hit by multiple vehicles, according to his father Todd Allen.
The son of Todd and Shilo Allen, Andrew was taken to University of Cincinnati Medical Center, where he is in critical condition. Todd Allen posted on the Team Brody Facebook page Thursday morning asking for prayers for his family.
Todd Allen said his son has a very serious life-threatening traumatic brain injury, damage to his heart and lungs, multiple compound fractures to both of his legs, damage to his kidneys, a small laceration to his spleen, a broken shoulder blade, and a dislocated or broken collarbone.
He said Drew Allen cannot breathe on his own and is on a ventilator. He is on round-the-clock kidney dialysis due to the damage to his kidneys and is in the Neurological Intensive Care Unit.
Here is part of Todd Allen's post:
"Our families compassion and prayers go out to those involved. I can't imagine what they are feeling today. I want them to know that we are grateful for the assistance they provided Andrew at the scene and we are praying for them."
Colerain Township police said the incident was under investigation. Springdale Road was reported as closed for a period on Wednesday for traffic reconstruction at the scene.
Some members of the family were out of town when Andrew was hit, necessitating an emergency trip home.
The Allens' son Brody, 2, died Oct. 17, after being diagnosed with a rare brain cancer in May. When doctors told the family in August their youngest child had two months to live, they decided to have Christmas early. The Northbrook community rallied around the family, with neighbors putting up Christmas lights and planning a Christmas parade for the youngster Sept. 23.
Brody received Christmas cards and greetings from around the world,
Todd Allen said then that he could not imagine going through the death of Brody without his faith. "I couldn't imagine how I would help or console my family with an answer let alone hope," he said. "I'm just grateful we came for a life with faith before Brody's illness. It has only strengthened our beliefs."
He's asking for prayers now.
"Eleven days ago we buried our youngest son Brody. Today Shilo and I are again in the hospital facing the very real reality that we may lose another son," his post said.
"Our grief and pain is simply indescribable right now. We desperately need your help. Your prayers helped carry us through Brody's fight with brain cancer. They continue to support us as we grieve his passing just a few days ago. Today as I sit at Andrew's hospital bedside I know that I am not strong enough to do this on my own.
"Please, if you're inclined, pray for Andrew's healing and recovery. I don't care what faith, language, religion, or perspective in life you come from. Your prayers, thoughts and well wishes carried us and more importantly, believe, gave Brody the strength and a little extra time, to live his last days to the fullest with absolute joy."
