BLOUNT COUNTY, Tenn. — Blount County schools will dismiss early on April 8 for students to see the partial solar eclipse at home, said the school system. Elementary schools will let out at 11:30 a.m., the middle school at 12 p.m. and the high school at 12:15 p.m.
BCS also included a link for additional resources on the best way to assist students with the strongest educational eclipse experience.
In Knox County, students will also have a half-day to watch the solar eclipse. KCS said it would provide educational materials and solar glasses so students could safely watch the partial eclipse with their families.
Roane County Schools also said schools would let out early on April 8 so students could watch the partial eclipse. Most schools in the county are set to let out by 11 a.m. and 12 p.m., and a full list of the specific times is available online. Students in Roane County will be given breakfast, lunch and eclipse viewing glasses with safety instructions.
The partial eclipse is expected to start at around 1:49 p.m. Eastern Time, reaching its maximum at around 3:07 p.m. The eclipse is expected to end in Knox County at around 4:23 p.m. At its peak, around 88% of the sun should be eclipsed in East Tennessee.
