Crews battled a large fire that engulfed and destroyed several RVs in Blount County.
According to Blount Co. fire chief Doug McClanahan, crews battled a fire that spread to at least four motor homes at Whispering River RV Resort -- formerly known as Misty River Cabins and RV Resort -- off Old Walland Highway.
The chief said the fire caused multiple tanks on the RVs to explode.
None of the RVs were occupied and no injuries were reported, however many of the RVs burnt to the ground. According to authorities, the RVs were being stored at the back of the property away from active campers.
The fire chief said the situation was a bit scary, and the heat didn't help one bit.
"You can imagine what that is, with the helmet and the gloves and all the gear... very hot. Today didn't help things. We have to keep an eye on each other, keep everyone rotated in and out, keep 'em hydrated... it's a big deal," McClanahan said.
Onlooker Bob Swieda captured several photos from the scene. A plume of black smoke could be seen rising from East Lamar Alexander Parkway.
Blount County authorities are investigating the cause of the fire.
