ATHENS, Tenn. — A UPS facility caught fire in McMinn County overnight, damaging the building and several trucks but causing no injuries, Athens Fire Department Chief Brandon Ainsworth confirmed to WBIR.
Ainsworth said crews responded to a fire at 2205 Lawn Drive around 11:53 p.m. Tuesday. They found heavy flames on both sides of the building and burning UPS trucks inside and outside.
Fire officials said about 24 trucks were heavily damaged by the fire, according to Local 3 News in Chattanooga.
UPS provided a statement to Local 3 News regarding the fire, "We’re very grateful that there were no injuries as the result of a fire at our facility in Athens, TN. We are putting contingency plans in place to continue service to our customers and are working with authorities to learn what happened."
Ainsworth said the cause of the fire is unknown and remains under investigation.
