Arconic to temporarily idle Tennessee operations due to reduced orders from COVID-19

Arconic said it will be temporary idling its facilities starting Monday, April 6.

ALCOA, Tenn. — One of Blount County's largest employers will be temporarily halting operations next week as COVID-19 continues to take a toll on businesses across the United States.

Arconic said it will enact a temporary idling of its facilities starting Monday, April 6.

Spokesperson Christy Newman said the pause is due to reduced orders from several large customers that have extended their shutdowns in response to COVID-19.

The company did not release any other details. The Lafayette Journal & Courier reported similar measures are being taken for Arconic operations in Indiana, reporting the company had also laid off more than 100 Lafayette employees in the process.
