1 dead after fatal motorcycle crash on Alcoa Highway Monday morning, authorities say

The crash happened at around 7:21 a.m. and Alcoa authorities responded. When crews arrived, they found a 44-year-old man unresponsive near his motorcycle.

ALCOA, Tenn. — Authorities said a 44-year-old man was dead after a motorcycle crash on Alcoa Highway Monday morning.

According to a release, the Alcoa Police Department and Alcoa Fire Department responded to calls about the crash at around 7:21 a.m. When crews arrived, they said they found Russell Swanson, Jr., 44, from Maryville, unresponsive and lying near his motorcycle.

The release said he was taken to the University of Tennessee Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

Authorities said evidence showed he was driving northbound in the left lane when a car tried to merge into the center median at Hillside Drive. A release said his motorcycle hit the back, left side of the car. The driver of the car was not injured, and was cited for failing to yield, the release said.

The Alcoa Police Department said it was still investigating the crash and anyone with information or video of it should reach out to authorities at 865-981-4111 and ask to speak with Lieutenant Daniel Brooks or Master Police Officer Adam Stephens.
