ALCOA, Tenn. — An Amazon spokesperson said a facility in Alcoa was closed after a "small fire" broke out Friday night.
The spokesperson, Austin Stowe, said no injuries were reported in the fire. The Alcoa Fire Department said it is investigating, and said the fire started on the third floor of the facility where packages were kept. A full statement from Stowe about the fire is available below.
“Last Friday, a small fire broke out at our Alcoa Fulfillment Center. We’re grateful that no one was injured during this incident and for the quick response by the Alcoa Fire and Police Departments.”
Stowe also said the facility would be closed while crews investigate the fire and make repairs to the facility.
Colin Hurst, the AFD Deputy Fire Chief, said Alcoa's Fire Marshall is conducting the investigation. He also said AFD did not yet know exactly what sparked the fire. He also said some packages were damaged in the fire, as well as by smoke and water.
Additional information about the fire, such as how many packages were damaged and when the facility would reopen, was not immediately available. This story will be updated when more information is available.
