THP asking for information on I-40 wreck that left 20-year-old firefighter dead

Pigeon Forge Fire Chief Tony Watson confirmed with WBIR that the person involved in the crash was Aaron Huss.

SEVIER COUNTY, Tenn. — A Pigeon Forge Fire Department firefighter is dead after a reported motorcycle crash on I-40 West Sunday evening.

The crash was reported between 8 and 8:30 p.m., according to the Tennessee Department of Transportation. Lanes were closed in the area for a few hours.

The PFFD Chief Tony Watson confirmed with WBIR that the firefighter was identified as 20-year-old Aaron Huss. PFFD held a procession for Huss, taking his body from the Knoxville Forensics Center to the Atchley Funeral Home in Sevierville.

The Tennessee Highway Patrol is asking for the public's assistance regarding the crash.

"If anyone has information or dash cam video of this incident please call 865-544-3380 for Sgt. Jonathan Scott," THP said. 

PFFD provided the following statement on the loss of Huss below:

"It is with heavy hearts that the Pigeon Forge Fire Department reports the sudden loss of our Firefighter, Aaron Huss, in an off-duty motorcycle accident last night. This is a devastating loss for our department as well as the entire Sevier County Fire Service. Firefighters are family, and that is especially true for the Pigeon Forge Fire Department. It has been an absolute honor and privilege to work alongside Firefighter Huss. He was an exemplary employee in both professionalism and character. His faith leaves a lasting impact on those that knew him. On behalf of his fire department family and the City of Pigeon Forge, we offer our sincere condolences during this difficult time."
