58 new Knox Co. SROs start training Monday

<(WBIR- Knoxville) Knox County's new school resource officers will start training on Monday.Superintendent Dr. Jim McIntyre and new chief of security, Gus Paidousis, said they've finished hiring the 58 new officers.Adding the officers means every school in Knox County will have a school resource officer next year. They'll go through a five-week training program, which includes legal, weapons and tactics classes.Paidousis says the new officers have a wide range of backgrounds and expertise."It's a great combination of people. We have some senior people, we have folks from the law enforcement community, we have some folks from the education community and so it's a very diverse group. Obviously at its very core, what's most important is they are people who care about children," he said.The additional officers will cost the school system about $1.6 million.The Knox County Commission and mayor also approved extra funding for the officers earlier this year.<
