KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Centro Hispano's biggest fundraiser of the year kicked off in downtown Knoxville Thursday evening, bringing together the area's Hispanic community for an evening to celebrate the people and organizations who made the biggest impact.
The 2024 Latino Awards marked 19 years of service, and during the celebration, Centro Hispano offered food and dancing. It also gave out three awards: the Corazon Award, the Communidad Award and the Latinidad Award.
The winners of each award are listed below.
- Corazon Award: The owners of Cataleya Cantina, a family-run restaurant in West Knoxville.
- Communidad Award: Pellissippi State Community College.
- Latinidad Award: Una Esperanza Viva Knoxville, a Spanish church that serves Knoxville's Latino community and ministers to its members.
The celebration was held at the Mill and Mine. The event helped raise more than $16,500, according to an online fundraiser. It will help Centro Hispano continue connecting people to healthcare, legal and financial resources. It also helps translate and distribute information in Spanish and Indigenous languages.
Centro Hispano also organizes events and programs that routinely bring the community together, meant to uplift families and teach people about Latino cultures.
