After 4-year hiatus due to COVID-19 pandemic, 'Honor Fountain City Day' returns

The event is a way to honor veterans and celebrate the Fountain City community.

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — A group gathered at Fountain City Park on Monday for the return of an event that celebrates the North Knoxville community and honors veterans — Honor Fountain City Day.

The event returned after a four-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 Pandemic. It brought out children to enjoy music and food vendors offering meals and fun for the whole family. A small train was also available, driven by a conductor who showed riders around Fountain City Park.

The Memorial Day celebration is also a way for the entire community to honor military veterans. It included a silent auction with gift cards and a Memorial Day ceremony.

"I mean, it's Memorial Day and we want to honor those who have paid the ultimate price and thank our veterans for all the freedom that we have. So, it is fun, but at the end of the day, it's about those who have served," an organizer previously told WBIR.

It was organized by the Fountain City Town Hall, a community organization. The first Honor Fountain City Day was in 1975 and had train rides, music and food.
