It could be the big one that got away, at least from the record books.

Doug Harper says he caught a 15-pound large mouth bass on the Holston River near Rogersville.

The local Lakeview Market weighed the fish, confirming its weight, which would break a state record dating back to 1954 by eight ounces.

Harper says he didn't want to kill the fish so he released it back into the wild after weighing it.

Unfortunately, for it to be a certified record breaker TWRA must weigh the fish on a certified scale.

Harper says he's going to continue hitting that river for a while.
