COCKE COUNTY, Tenn. — A young girl was taken to the University of Tennessee Medical Center on Thursday after the Cocke County Sheriff's Office got a call saying she had been run over by an F-150 pickup truck.
The sheriff's office's report said deputies were sent to a home on Holly Court Road at around 9:38 a.m. after getting the call. When a deputy arrived, he said the pickup truck was on top of the girl and another girl was talking to her. The deputy said he was told the truck had run the 13-year-old girl over. The Cosby Fire Department arrived and started working to remove the truck.
Deputies said they spoke with the 13-year-old's grandparents, who said they were in the car when the driver backed up too far and went off a driveway and into an embankment. The grandparents said they got out of the car to find something for traction and get the car back on the driveway. Both girls were also told to get out of the truck, according to the sheriff's office's report.
It said the 13-year-old tried to get out of the truck when the "back left passenger door knocked her down onto the ground and the front left tire ran over (her) legs and abdomen."
The deputy said the grandparents told him the truck was parked at the time.
The 13-year-old girl was taken to the hospital by helicopter. Additional information about her condition was not immediately available. This story will be updated when more information is available.
