KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — A few months after it opened, Kern's Food Hall said on Aug. 29 that it would start charging fees for people to stay parked for longer than two hours on most days. In the months after it opened, the food hall let people park for free.

The food hall said on social media the new fees would help "maintain a high level of service and facilities upkeep along with deterring long-term term parking." It said by charging a fee, the food hall could improve parking lot maintenance and security, enhance traffic management and upgrade amenities and services.

On most days, people will be allowed to park for free for up to two hours. After that, they will be charged $5. If they park longer than four hours, they will be charged $10.

On game days, when Tennessee Football plays in Neyland Stadium, the food hall will charge everyone who parks. It will cost $5 to park for the first hour, and an additional $5 for subsequent hours. It will cost $30 to park for more than five hours, but the fee will not rise higher than that on game day.

"We've kept the fees reasonable and offer free parking for short visits. Plus, our game-day fees are tiered to accommodate different visit lengths," Kern's Food Hall said on social media.

Additional information, such as whether employees would need to pay the fee or how the food hall would keep track of how long people park, was not immediately available.
