LOUDON COUNTY, Tenn. — The Loudon County Sheriff's Office gave its local Special Olympians a special escort to the county line on Friday to see them off to the Summer Games in Nashville, officials with LCSO said.
2500 athletes, coaches, volunteers and family members will attend the State Summer Games, the organization's largest event of the year, according to its website.
The event will start on Friday with a Law Enforcement Torch Run starting at 5:30 p.m. on Lipscomb University’s Campus.
"Law enforcement representatives will run with the flame to present and light the cauldron to signify the start of the 2019 Special Olympics Tennessee Summer Games," the website said.
The Opening Ceremony will start at 6:45 p.m. and will have the Parade of Athletes, the lighting of the cauldron, a keynote speaker and special recognitions.
Athletes at the games will compete in six different sports: Aquatics, Athletics, Bocce, Powerlifting, Tennis and Volleyball.
