KUB suspends disconnections for non-payment to help customers concerned with spread of COVID-19

Bills will continue to accrue if they're not paid. Customers are encouraged to continue making payments.

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — The Knoxville Utilities Board announced that it would suspend disconnections for non-payments to help customers concerned with the spread fo COVID-19 cases, until further notice.

Even if service may not be disconnected, bills will continue to accrue, KUB said in a release on its website. Customers are still expected to make payments.

They also announced that they would suspend all community events until further notice and that they would make efforts to reduce the number of visitors on KUB campuses.

They also changed employee schedules to limit person-to-person contact. Construction crew start times will be staggered, which will reduce the number of crews that are onsite at once.

Workplaces are being sanitized before and after each employee's shift, and the workforce itself is spreading out so that people can stay further away from their coworkers. Some employees will start working from home, too.

Customer service centers are open and are being sanitized regularly. Yet, KUB is encouraging people to pay online to reduce the chance of COVID-19 spreading.
