Knoxville Police Department is actively looking for suspects who they say robbed the Habaneros Mexican Grill on Asheville Highway, fled the scene, then crashed their car.
Officers responded to the restaurant around 3:44 p.m. after receiving a report of a possible robbery in progress.
Upon arrival, officers say they spoke with a victim and determined that one individual was approached outside the business while speaking on the phone.
Authorities say the suspect displayed a firearm and demanded money from the victim. They then fled in a dark-colored GMC Yukon.
There were no injuries from the robbery.
Officers began circulating the area and were able to observe the vehicle several times, but were unable to get directly behind the vehicle to initiate a traffic stop.
While traveling at a high rate of speed, the driver of the vehicle lost control and the vehicle crashed after rolling over on Kenner Avenue near Odd Fellows Cemetery.
The driver and possible other unknown suspects fled the scene of the crash.
Authorities say weapons and other significant evidence were located at the scene.
Investigators are continuing to investigate.
