SEVIERVILLE, Tenn — A Sevier County judge denied a request to lower the bond for a woman charged with a string of DUI's.
Julie Huskey, previously known as Julie Ogle, was indicted in May on counts of reckless endangerment, vehicular assault, DUI 3rd offense and improper lane change in connection with a crash that injured an 18-year-old.
The indictment was returned July 29 and Huskey was booked into jail the next day with a $250,000 bond, records show.
Huskey's lawyer, T. Scott Jones, claimed she was sleeping on a concrete floor in jail. He's pushing for better accommodations after Huskey allegedly suffered multiple fractures and injuries and needs to make regular visits to the doctor.
"She's not certainly a flight risk by any definition and to keep her locked up in a four by six room, 23 hours a day, only out 1— that does not allow the proper exercise and physical therapy she needs for her extremity," Jones said.
Jones said declining Huskey's bond reduction was a "back-handed" favor since she doesn't have health insurance. Sevier County taxpayers pay for her medical treatment since she's in custody.
Huskey's arrest record in Sevier County dates back more than a decade and involves multiple law enforcement agencies, documents show. Police charged her twice this year for DUI, including in the May incident.
Prior DUIs include a DUI 2nd offense entered into the court record in February 2017, records show.
