Healthy Mouth Movement helps veterans get free dental care

Aspend Dental provides free dental care for veterans June 27, 2015
Veterans received free dental care Saturday as part of the Healthy Mouth Movement.

(WBIR-Knoxville) Veterans nationwide received free dental care on Saturday from Aspen Dental.

The Healthy Mouth Movement connects veterans and others in need with dentists in the Aspen Dental network who volunteer their time and services.

Aspen Dental offices in both Knoxville and Morristown participated in the event, along more than 300 other locations across 31 states.

While one goal of the program is to provide oral health care to those in need, it also aims raise awareness of the millions of Americans who lack access to adequate care when they need it. Aspen Dental chose to focus the Healthy Mouth Movement on veterans in 2015 because they often must have a service-connected dental condition or be a former prisoner of war to be eligible for dental benefits from the Department of Veterans Affairs.

Since January 2014, Aspen Dental volunteers have provided over $1 million worth of services benefiting more than 3,000 people.
