Oak Ridge beer garden selling beer for breast cancer

All proceeds from sales go to an employee who was recently diagnosed with breast cancer.

OAK RIDGE, Tenn. — Hops and Hounds in Oak Ridge is a popular spot for people to bring their dogs and have a few drinks. Among the people at the beer garden is employee Brooke Riley.

"Brooke is a friend of ours and an employee, she actually started as a regular here," said Hops and Hounds co-owner Maggie Parrott, "She's got two sweet little dogs that she brings. And so when we were looking for people to help us around the park she stepped up and volunteered and we've just become really good friends with her."

Brooke was recently diagnosed with breast cancer and underwent a double mastectomy.

"She told us one day that she had found a lump in her breast, and that she was getting that checked out. And it did turn out to be cancer," said Parrott.

Now she needs to undergo chemotherapy, so the people at Hops and Hounds are trying to help out with the medical bills.

"This is Barrique. What's cool about them is that a dollar from every one of their beers goes to breast cancer research, and we're selling it here and all of our proceeds are going to go to Brooke's family for her medical funds," Parrott mentioned

The owners of Hops and Hounds don't want to bring any attention to themselves by doing this, they simply want to help Brooke because they feel it's the right thing to do.

"I just think that's what you should do. Y'know, we're part of a community. She's part of our family. And so, that's what we do, we support each other," said Parrott. "So I don't want her to ever feel like- she's got a family and a young kid and her family and her kid are here all the time, and so we don't ever want her to feel like she's going through this alone."

The beer garden is selling the beer for the foreseeable future to help out the family, they also have future events that they will be holding as fundraisers for her as well.
