49-year-old marathon runner trying to run in 50 states

Ranjeet Singh started his marathon journey in Alaska in June 2023 and plans to finish his 32nd race on Sunday, Sept. 1.

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Have you heard anyone say their hobby is running marathons?

Ranjeet Singh started his marathon journey in Alaska in June 2023 and plans to finish his 32nd race on Sunday, Sept. 1.

Singh said the YMCA is a big part of why he is running marathons. He signed up for an Ironman triathlon without knowing how to swim. The triathlon is a long-distance race that consists of a 2.4-mile swim, a 112-mile bike ride and a 26.2-mile run.

The YMCA helped him with his training and the rest is history. So, what's next for Singh?

"I'm turning 50 next year," Singh said. "What if I go to 50 states and run 50 marathons at the age of 50? How is that? That's a good plan."

Singh said the hardest marathon he's ran so far was in Utha because it was a downhill run. He said he doesn't have a lot of practice with those.

He also said the marathon he ran in Vermont was tough, too.
