Want to get tested for COVID-19 in East TN, even without symptoms? Here's where to go

The State of Tennessee has expanded free testing for COVID-19 to people who aren't experiencing symptoms

With Tennessee leaders allowing businesses to reopen across the state, expanded and easier testing is more now critical than ever.

Knox County

The Knox County Health Department announced a location change for testing for the week of Aug. 24-28. Testing will be held on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday at the Knox County Halls Senior Center at 4405 Crippen Road from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. due to a prior reservation at the Jacobs Building. The location and testing schedule is expected to return to normal the following week.

The Knox Co. Health Dept. is doing free COVID-19 at the Jacobs Building in Chilhowee Park on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. There may be days when testing cannot occur because of a prior booking in the space, and KCHD will communicate if that happens.

At times, the line may be cut prior to 3 p.m. to ensure staff members have time to process the tests and get them to the lab.

Tuesdays and Thursdays will be reserved for targeted testing events.

Testing is free, but insured individuals must bring their insurance card. We recommend that children be seen by their primary care physician (PCP), but we will attempt to test all age children. If they are not cooperative, we will refer them to their PCP.

For more information, please call KCHD's Public Information Line at 865-215-5555 or toll-free at 888-288-6022. The information line is available from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. EDT, Monday through Friday.

“Until there is a vaccine for COVID-19, quickly detecting this illness, isolating if ill and practicing social distancing are the most powerful tools we have to stop the spread and help our state return to work,” said Piercey. “I encourage every Tennessean to remember: ‘when in doubt, get a test’ as we work to identify COVID-19 cases and keep our neighbors safe.”
