The hiker was at the Double Spring Gap Shelter, according to the Tennessee National Guard.

Great Smoky Mountains Natl. Park — The Tennessee National Guard said it rescued a hiker in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park Wednesday evening.

The hiker was at the Double Spring Gap Shelter and was experiencing cardiac distress, according to the TN National Guard.

An hour after being notified of the mission, the aircrew of UH-60 Blackhawk flew to the shelter and lowered a paramedic to the patient, the TN National Guard said.

The paramedic performed first aid and readied the patient for transport, according to the TN National Guard.

After less than 10 minutes at the shelter, the patient and paramedic were hoisted into the Blackhawk and taken to the University of Tennessee Medical Center where the patient received medical treatment, the TN National Guard said.
