OCONEE COUNTY, Ga. -- Four University of Georgia students were killed in a Wednesday evening car crash.
The incident happened in the 3900 block of Georgia Highway 15 and involved a vehicle with a Gwinnett County license plate, officials with the sheriff's office said. According to authorities, the crash victims were traveling in a Toyota Camry which crossed into the southbound lanes and was hit on the passenger side.
Thursday afternoon, the Georgia State Patrol released the names of the victims.
Kayla Canedo, 19, of Alpharetta; Brittany Feldman, 20, of Alpharetta; Christina Semeria, 19, of Milton; and Halle Scott, 19, of Dunwoody all died as a result of the crash.
The driver of the car, Agnes Kim, 21, is still in critical condition.
Oconee County Sheriff Scott Berry said in a post on the department's Facebook page that the family members were making their way to town.
Berry said he spent the night at Athens Regional Medical Center with "friends, sorority sisters and families of the young ladies."

State troopers do not suspect alcohol was a factor in the crash.
The Oconee Enterprise reports that the accident happened near the Hot Thomas BBQ restaurant and involved two vehicles - one which left the road.
UGA president Jere W. Morehead released the following statement:
We are deeply saddened to learn of the heartbreaking and tragic loss of four students and critical injuries to another student in a terrible car accident last night outside of Athens. We extend our deepest condolences to the families and friends of our students who were victims. We ask that you keep these students and their family and friends in your thoughts and prayers.
