(WBIR) - Planning is underway for the newly named Everly Brothers Park.
A conceptual design shows how the small park at the corner of Kingston Pike and Forest Park Boulevard could be designed. Some landscaping already has been placed on site, near a commercial center that includes Earthfare.
Phil and Don Everly lived near the site in the 1950s and attended nearby West High School. They then went on to Nashville to work as performers, and their fame and musical reputation steadily grew.
Among their many hits were "Wake Up, Little Susie" and "Cathy's Clown." The Beatles are among the many groups that have credited the brothers as a musical influence.
Phil Everly died in January 2014.
The Bearden Council will raise money for the park project.
Members estimate the cost for park elements and landscaping will be around $110,000 to $150,000.
But that could change based on what the community wants the park to have.
A park dedication ceremony will be Aug. 7.
