UT commencement ceremonies to start on May 16, celebrating grads' accomplishments

From Thursday through Saturday, the University of Tennessee will host commencement ceremonies for undergraduate and graduate students.

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — This week, families and graduates will flock to the University of Tennessee campus to celebrate the accomplishments of the class of 2024. Commencement ceremonies for undergraduate and graduate students will start on May 16 and mostly run through May 18.

Almost all ceremonies will be held in the Thompson-Boling Arena at Food City Center, and UT said eligible graduates should have received an email by Feb. 5 with details about how to register and other instructions to prepare. It also noted the "official graduation date" printed on diplomas does not necessarily reflect the date of their commencement ceremony.

Undergraduate students participate in their own college's ceremonies. The schedules for different undergraduate colleges' ceremonies as well as graduate student ceremonies are available below.

Doors open for graduating students around 90 minutes before their ceremony starts. When they arrive, they can pick up their cards at registration tables which will then be used as the graduates cross the stage.

UT's clear bag policy will be enforced during commencement, and security screenings will be in place as graduates enter the building. UT said there were no plans to require tickets for entry. UT also said people can use the "#UTGrad2024" to share graduation photos.

All ceremonies are also live-streamed online, giving families another way to watch graduates walk across the stage. Each ceremony is estimated to last up to two-and-a-half hours.
