COOKEVILLE, Tenn. — Tennessee Tech met a milestone for 10 consecutive years, ranking as a top national university in the U.S. News and World Report

The publication's 2025 rankings recognized the school across nine different categories, up from last year's eight categories, ranking the top schools for social mobility, business, computer science, engineering, nursing and psychology. It ranked 158th among the country's top public schools.

"Tech was additionally named to U.S. News’ list of top public universities, 'A+ schools for B students,' and the all-important list of best national universities," the university said in a release. "As with last year, U.S. News’ 2025 rankings show that Tech graduates have the lowest median debt of all public university graduates in Tennessee."

Tennessee Tech said its Department of Computer Science climbed 56 spots to be named among the top three computer science programs in the state, and the top two among public universities. "Tennessee Tech continues to be a model for the rest of the state and beyond of how to deliver a high-quality, affordable education paired with a vibrant campus experience that produces ready-to-work graduates,” said Phil Oldham in a release, Tennessee Tech's President. “As we celebrate a decade on U.S. News’ list of top national universities, we honor every student, alumni, faculty and staff member who contributed to this milestone achievement, and we dedicate ourselves to building on the progress we have made together.”

The university said altogether, 15 institutions in Tennessee were named to the list of best national universities.

"Tech’s placement on U.S. News’ rankings comes as the university recently announced another enrollment surge for fall 2024, including the fourth largest freshman class in university history and the largest total student headcount since 2015," the school said.
