Knox County students to return to school Thursday on 2-hour delay; other East TN districts delayed and closed

Knox County Schools said it would start school two hours late on Jan. 25.

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — East Tennessee is continuing to thaw out after a winter storm brought thick sheets of ice and several inches of snow across the region. As temperatures rise, the snow is melting and road conditions are improving in many areas of the county.

However, some places are still treacherous to drive around. So, some school districts said they would either delay school or stay closed altogether on Jan. 25, after a week full of school closures.

A list of the East Tennessee schools that will be delayed and closed on Jan. 25 is available below.

  • Claiborne County Schools: Closed
  • Cocke County Schools: 1-hour delay
  • Faith Harvest Church: No student services
  • Knox County Schools: 2-hour delay (Central office, executive principals, maintenance and custodial staff report on time)
  • Union County Schools: 1-hour delay

The recent school closures also brought concerns about how the rest of the school year could be impacted. Knox County Schools' eighth and last available inclement weather day was used on Wednesday, Jan. 24. Several other East Tennessee school districts are also running low on inclement weather days, after the winter storm.
