Proposed plan to move students out of Jefferson Elementary School would impact 3 other schools

The plan, created by the Jefferson County director of schools would only take effect if there were renovations at JES.

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. — Parents, teachers and community members continue to voice concern about conditions at Jefferson Elementary School that WBIR first reported in August.

Since then, a push at Jefferson County Board of Education meeting resulted in board members passing a resolution asking Director of Schools Tommy Arnold to complete a plan for how to move students out of the building.

The plan would only go into effect if renovation happens at JES.

New Market School would move to Rush Strong School.

Jefferson Elementary School students would be distributed by grade level. Pre-school through third grade would move to New Market. Fourth and fifth graders would go to Jefferson Middle School.

Pre-K at New Market would stay at New Market and Pre-K at Rush Strong would move to New Market as well.

The plan would also include portable classrooms at Jefferson Middle School and Rush Strong School. Those costs, along with moving costs and infrastructure to accommodate students would cost $1.2 million.

The plan also specifies that no staff would be without a job and buses would take students to their assigned schools.
