OAK RIDGE, Tenn. — Oak Ridge Schools said Linden Elementary dismissed early on Thursday due to a power outage that's expected to last a few hours.

Dismissal will begin at 10:45 a.m. and buses aim to leave campus at 11 a.m. If parents can't make it home to meet their child at the bus stop, they are asked to use ParentSquare to contact the school as soon as possible so their child can be held at the school, according to ORS.

Phones are down at the school due to the power outage—making ParentSquare the best form of communication, ORS said.

Extended Childcare will be closed and transporting children directly to Boys & Girls or Girls, Inc. isn't possible, according to ORS.

Oak Ridge Electric Operations told WBIR that a squirrel caused the power outage. The squirrel got between two bays at a substation and crews are repairing a short that caused some damage to a couple of insulators.

The City of Oak Ridge said crews are actively working to get power restored.
