OAK RIDGE, Tenn. — The United States Department of Education has recognized Glenwood Elementary as a National Blue Ribbon School, according to a release from Oak Ridge Schools.
The National Blue Ribbon Schools Program has recognized public and private schools for their academic excellence and progress in closing achievement gaps since 1982.
Glenwood is one of 365 schools nationally and one of six schools in Tennessee to be selected. According to the release, this award identifies Glenwood as an exemplary high-performing school for being among Tennessee's best-performing on state assessments or nationally normed tests.
“I am so fortunate to lead a school of inspiring educators and students who show up every day with a dedication to raise the bar on achievement,” said Dr. Ginny Boles, Glenwood Elementary Principal. “Our staff and their commitment to finding innovative, data-driven strategies to help students reach their full potential has allowed us to exceed our goals, year after year.”
In addition to this latest honor, Glenwood has been named a Reward School for the last two years by the Tennessee Department of Education, and was given an "A" rating in the state's first year of the letter-grade system, the release said.
Five other Tennessee schools were also recipients of the Blue Ribbon Award. Representatives from the chosen schools will be recognized at a two-day award ceremony in Washington D.C. on November 7 and 8.
