KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Fourteen Fulton High School seniors were surprised Monday morning with scholarship-backed admission into the University of Tennessee.
The admitted students will receive scholarships covering tuition and mandatory fees for up to eight semesters, combined with the HOPE Scholarship. The students have expressed interest in various fields including accounts, aerospace engineering, animal science and elementary education.
The surprise is part of UT's efforts to celebrate incoming students and strengthen ties with high schools in the Knoxville area. Fulton High School is a designated UT Flagship school. The Flagship Scholarship program is an initiative designed to make higher education more accessible and affordable for Tennessee students.
There are dozens of schools in the program across the state. In East Tennessee, schools like Cosby High School, Scott County High School and Oneida High School are included in the program.
UT said it could cost $11,560 in tuition for undergraduates to attend the school for the 2024-2025 school year. It could also cost $2,252 in fees.
