KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Several East Tennessee schools were closed and delayed on Tuesday after storms rolled through the area and brought heavy rain with strong gusts of wind. Some of those closures and delays are expected to continue into Wednesday.
Several roads across the area were flooded the storm knocked out power for some areas of East Tennessee. In Sevier County, Topside Road, Hemlock Street, the 400 block of Baskings Creek Road, and Lower Alpine Road were blocked Tuesday due to the rain.
The heaviest rains passed Tuesday afternoon, making way for breezy conditions across the area. A Wind Advisory has been issued in some areas, where winds could gust up to 50-55 mph in parts of the Valley and on the Plateau through Wednesday, and where a few downed trees and isolated power outages are still possible.
