Claiborne Co. Board of Education meets amid questions about 'incident' involving high school students

Meredith Arnold, the Claiborne County Director of Schools, released a statement about the incident at the Thursday meeting.

CLAIBORNE COUNTY, Tenn. — Questions have lingered after reports of an "incident" involving Claiborne High School began to swirl on social media. On Thursday, the Claiborne County Board of Education met for its regular meeting, where leaders provided a statement about the incident.

Meredith Arnold, the Claiborne County Director of Schools, said the school board and administrative team were fully aware of an incident that occurred at football camp. She also said due to an ongoing investigation and "the district's responsibility to protect the identity of students involved," the Board of Education could not provide specific details about the incident.

"If any mistakes were made by Claiborne County Schools during this process, then we will work hard to identify such mistakes and make sure they are never repeated," she said

She then said the board would "work tirelessly to prioritize the safety of their students."

Claiborne High School's head coach, Nathan Medlin, resigned from his position on Monday, effective immediately. It happened after questions began about what the district calls an "incident."

The New Tazewell Police Department also said it was investigating the incident and could not provide specific information.
