38 Central High School students get scholarships to fully pay tuition at UT

The students all made sure to get their applications, forms and essays in before the deadline.

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — A group of Central High School students had the chance to attend the University of Tennessee without worrying about tuition or fees after they were presented with scholarships Tuesday afternoon.

The group of 38 students had to make sure they submitted their applications, forms and essays before the deadline to be eligible for the scholarships. Will Meadows, one of the students, said the scholarships were a boon during a time when he was exploring higher education opinions — guaranteeing he would have a chance to attend higher education.

"It's a lot of relief. It's been a stressful few months, trying to figure out if we're even gonna be able to go. So, it's like a dumbbell has been lifted off our shoulders," Meadows said.

Teachers at Central High School also said they were proud of the work the students did to earn them the chance to attend UT without worrying about tuition.
