KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — A woman has been charged with carjacking, aggravated assault, motor vehicle theft, and more after an "incident" that happened in West Knoxville Friday night, according to the Knoxville Police Department.
At around 8:45 p.m., KPD responded to The Abigail apartments on Summit Circle. KPD said the residents of an apartment reported that an unknown woman, identified as Tesia Taylor, entered the apartment demanding money and assaulting one of the residents.
According to KPD, the victim of that assault, a 38-year-old man, was taken to the University of Tennessee Medical Center to be treated for a head injury.
After the assault, Taylor left the apartment and stole a Hyundai Genesis from the parking lot. The keys were left inside of the Hyundai, officials said.
After leaving in the stolen car, she crashed near the Kingston Pike and Leonard Rogers Street intersection.
After the crash, allegedly Taylor got out of the car and went to the passenger side of another occupied car and demanded that the driver get out, KPD said.
The driver, who was uninjured during the conflict, complied. Once Taylor drove away in the car, she crashed into an SUV at the Kingston Pike and Montvue Road intersection. The SUV then flipped on its top.
KPD said the driver of the SUV only suffered minor injuries.
Taylor was charged with aggravated assault, carjacking, criminal trespassing, reckless driving, leaving the scene of an accident, motor vehicle theft and vandalism with additional charges possibly pending, KPD said.
According to officials, Taylor is now in custody.
