US Marshal: Electronic billboards posted in several states to find fugitive who's 'manipulative' and 'dangerous'

Agencies have no "hot leads" on Sean Williams, a federal inmate who escaped custody.

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — UPDATE (10/30): There are electronic billboards posted in several states seeking the whereabouts of an escaped fugitive,  according to the U.S. Marshals Service.

Sean Williams has been on the run since Oct. 18, after authorities say he broke a window out of a Laurel County, Kentucky transport van and escaped through it. He is facing numerous child rape charges, and drug charges in Washington County.

U.S. Marshal David Jolley said they are receiving a lot of tips around upper East Tennessee but also from other states. The billboards have been posted in the following states:

  • Tennessee
  • Kentucky
  • North Carolina
  • South Carolina
  • Georgia
  • Florida
  • Virginia
  • Maryland

So far, the tips they received have not led them to Williams. The award for information on Williams's whereabouts is still up to $7,500, according to Jolley.

Original Story

A week after a fugitive's escape, the U.S. Marshals Service said they had no "hot leads" on his location.

"We have investigators from several different agencies," said David Jolley, a U.S. Marshal. "Including the U.S. Marshals Service, FBI, Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, Tennessee Highway Patrol, and Homeland Security, state Homeland Security, working around the clock."

Jolley says they need the public's help, and anyone with information should call 911 if they see Sean Williams.

"This is a guy who is very manipulative," he said. "In our opinion, he would be a very dangerous guy just because he has absolutely no intention of being captured and returning to incarceration."

Williams has been on the run since Oct. 18, after authorities say he broke a window out of a Laurel County, Kentucky transport van and escaped through it. He is facing numerous child rape charges, and drug charges in Washington County.

He's also charged in federal court with being a felon in possession of ammunition and for attempted escape from the Washington County Detention Center in July.

Jolley also said nobody should approach him if they do see Williams. The total maximum award for information leading to his arrest is $7,500 with reward money offered by the U.S. Marshals and the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation.

"Sometimes, I've seen these cases go on for days and weeks on end. You start thinking after you haven't seen him or had any confirmed sightings that the person has made their way out of the area. And then, lo and behold, something pops up," said Jolley.
