A judge set a trial date for the man charged with killing a woman on a Knoxville Greenway.
Police say Timothy Ison, 24, killed Stefany Fairbanks on the Third Creek Greenway in May last year. His trial is now scheduled to begin on October 31.
Knoxville police have determined no connection between the suspect and the victim.
Ison has a history of mental health problems and spent much of the last 10 years incarcerated. When he was 14, he attacked an east Knoxville couple in their home. He was treated at Mountain View Youth Development Center in Dandridge until he was 19.
He was later convicted for assault in Kentucky for which he served prison time.
Witnesses testified in the case last summer that Ison “calmly walked away” after killing Fairbanks.
"She tried to run away from him and screamed for help. She got off of the path into the grass and fell down. We're riding towards them and get up to the victim and get off our bikes and he [Ison] turned and just calmly walked away. He just walked away calmly."
Ison is charged with first degree murder. He is currently being held on $1 million bond at the Roger D. Wilson Detention Facility in Knox County.
