The trial began Monday for one of the two people charged with killing an elderly East Tennessee man and hiding his body.
Norman Lee Follis Jr. and Tammy Sue Chapman are accused of murdering Sammie J. Adams, 79, sometime between Dec. 5, 2011 and Jan. 24, 2012. The pair then stashed Adams's body under a staircase in his own apartment, according to District Attorney General Dave Clark.
The trial for Follis started Monday morning with opening statements. Follis is Adams's nephew.
Prosecutors previously said they would seek death penalty against the couple due to the victim's age.
