KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — The Knox County District Attorney's Office said it convicted a man who assaulted and confined his girlfriend for over seven hours.
Timothy Dewayne Stanton was found guilty of aggravated assault, domestic assault and aggravated kidnapping, according to the DA's office.
From Dec. 31, 2022, to Jan. 1, 2023, Stanton trapped his girlfriend in a camper parked on her mother's property. He locked the door to the camper and used string to tie the door to a faucet to keep it closed, the DA's office said.
Stanton assaulted his girlfriend from around midnight until 7:30 a.m. She suffered serious injuries including fractures in two places on her ocular bones, three broken ribs, a concussion and multiple lacerations to her head, according to the DA's office.
Around 7:30 a.m., Stanton took his girlfriend from the camper to his truck to hide her so that no one would notice her injuries. She was able to run and escape to her mother's house while Stanton fled, the DA's office said.
The girlfriend's son took her to the hospital immediately and the Knox County Sheriff's Office Forensic Unit documented multiple blood stains at the scene and the string used to lock the door, according to the DA's office.
“My office handles more domestic-related warrants than any other type of crime,” District Attorney Charme Allen said. “The sentence in this case should give the victim a sense of peace for years to come.”
Stanton's sentencing is scheduled for May 8 and he faces eight to 12 years, according to the DA's office.
