Family of man shot on I-40 tells story for first time

John Wethington was shot in the face last Saturday and remains in critical condition.

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — The Family of John Wethington is speaking for the first time, they want to know why someone would hurt their loved one.

"He's the type of person who will do anything for anybody, a random person on the street, a friend of a friend, a neighbor. He's always at someone's house doing some sort of handy work. Just to help people out." said Tara Allen, Wethington's Ex-Wife,  "John does stuff for strangers all the time and it was returned to him at the most important time of his life."

Allen believes that the people who came to John's aide during that time are the reason he's alive. Wethington was driving along the I-40 when he was shot in the face, and now the family is looking for answers.

"We're trying to get people to reach out if they saw anything, even the tiniest detail could help in the investigation. People might think of something small and think oh it could be and if it could be it could help," said Allen

According to Knoxville Police Department, the shooter was in a white Jeep but it's unclear which direction it was driving.

Now the family is asking anyone with any information to come forward.

"This is a real person that it happened to, and that it makes a big difference for us to find out who, and have them brought to justice," Allen said.

If anyone has any information you are asked to call East Tennessee Valley Crime Stoppers.

If you would like to help John with any medical expenses you can donate to the GoFundMe here.
